Prayer for America

Prayer for America and Her People

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

You alone are God over all the nations of the earth.  I glorify and magnify your name for it is holy.

Let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your people, the people of America  .

I confess the sins we Americans, including myself have committed against you. We have acted very wickedly toward you. We have not obeyed your commandments. We have broken your laws and turned our face from you.

Do not be angry beyond measure, O LORD; do not remember our sins forever. Oh, look upon us, we pray, for we are all your people.

Give attention to your servant’s prayer and my plea for mercy, O LORD my God.  Hear the cry and the prayer that your servant is praying in your presence this day.  May your eyes be open toward America night and day, this place of which her founding fathers said, ‘His Name shall be there,’ so that you will hear the prayer your servant prays toward this place.

Hear from heaven, your dwelling place, and when you hear, forgive.  Forgive this nation of her sins, for they are too numerous.  Pour out your unfailing grace on her.  Stir her heart to righteousness and draw the American people back to the heart of their God.   Hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy, and in your faithfulness and righteousness come to America’s salvation.

And may these words of mine, which I have prayed before the LORD, be near to the LORD our God day and night, that he may uphold the cause of his servant and the cause of America and your people according to each day’s need,  then hear from heaven their prayer and their plea for America, and uphold their cause.

So I pray to you, O Lord, in the time of your favor, in your great love, and wondrous mercy, O God, answer me with your sure salvation for the nation I love.  I pray for the peace of America:  “May those who love you be secure.”

Amen
